Haha! Even more difficult...
I think I'm going to say Ice by Sarah Beth Durst. I loved that one so, so much. And it is my favorite fairy/folk tale- East of the Sun, West of the Moon- so it has that going for it. The author is brilliant. I love all of the characters and the spin on the traditional tale. It was great. And I have re-read it time and time again and will continue to do so.
Sun, Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George
Also Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George is a great retelling of the story.
And, you are already aware of my relationship with the novel Scorpio Races. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
But Ice wins... :)

Really?! I might have to re-read them then. Give them another chance if you loved them so much. Mom was just talking about them too, just the other day. How funny!

A Review: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

The Review:

Wow. wha wha wha wow!!
I loved this book. As said when I purchased this book I am not a person who is big on historical fantasy, but this was so good!
So according to the author her inspiration was a twisted take on Cinderella. Now I'm not sure I got that or not, but I did not care.
As far as I am concerned Celaena Sardothien is one of my very favorite YA heroines ( YES I dare to say favorite). When we first meet her she has been imprisoned in these mines, but she does not let that dampen her spirit not one bit. She is quite the lippy little thing which provides a great amount of humor to the story.
It is here after being escorted by the Captain of the Royal Guard Chaol Westfall, that she meets prince Dorian, who wants her to be his Champion in, what proves to be a deadly, competition to become his fathers, the king, royal assassin. If she wins it means freedom, after 4 years of services that is, but losing means being sent back to the mines. So what does she do, why she accepts the offer of course. Little does she know that darkness surrounds these competitions and something very deadly lurks the halls of the glass castle killing off the competitors one by one.
Oh, this was such a good story. It never strayed anywhere where I did not want to follow, never one second was I bored wishing myself ahead of the story, there was always something intriguing going on!
Celaena was such a lovable character, despite her profession. She was just really at the end of the day a girl. A girl who loves parties and dresses, maybe even a little romance as well, but can also fashion a knife with soap and sewing needles. Who is scared of letting people in but does it anyway and above all values her freedom. By the end of the book there is still so much to discover about her and much of the other characters that I cannot wait for book two.
This book also provides a slew of interesting characters: A brooding captain of the guard, a charming prince, a princess from another kingdom, a very suspicious duke, a conniving courtier, and a very dangerous king are just among a very select few.
I should probably mention something about the romance in this book because it does very much so contain it, I have some very strong opinions about it actually, but it's not what kept the pages turning for me (okay that's a little lie it did keep the pages turning sometimes), I loved the idea of this competition, the tests and trials and how it molded and changed all the characters (some changed for the better, some for the very worse)  and some of their views on what it means to be a honorable person.
I cannot wait for book numbro  2!! I am so happy to give this book a rating....................

...........My Purchases..........

Today when I was out and about I stopped at a little bookstore called Half Priced Books. This place is like my new book haven I love it! I don't know about you, but I love the character of a used book, like, you just know that someone has held this book and formed their own opinions and own attachment or possibly detachment to the book. I think it gives the book a different kind of life. I don't know maybe that may be a little cray cray, but it doesn't hurt that they are literally half the price you would pay for the book at say B&N and the condition of the books are very good too!
Now onto the books (Links to amazon.com and blurbs are below):

Rampant by Diana Peterfreund:
Forget everything you ever knew about unicorns . . .
Real unicorns are venomous, man-eating monsters with huge fangs and razor-sharp horns. Fortunately, they've been extinct for a hundred and fifty years.
Or not.
Astrid had always scoffed at her eccentric mother's stories about killer unicorns. But when one of the monsters attacks her boyfriend—thereby ruining any chance of him taking her to the prom—Astrid finds herself headed to Rome to train as a unicorn hunter at the ancient cloisters the hunters have used for centuries.
However, at the cloisters all is not what it seems. Outside, the unicorns wait to attack. And within, Astrid faces other, unexpected threats: from the crumbling, bone-covered walls that vibrate with a terrible power to the hidden agendas of her fellow hunters to—perhaps most dangerously of all—her growing attraction to a handsome art student . . . an attraction that could jeopardize everything.

Tyger Tyger by Kersten Hamilton:

Teagan Wylltson's best friend, Abby, dreams that horrifying creatures--goblins, shape-shifters, and beings of unearthly beauty but terrible cruelty--are hunting Teagan. Abby is always coming up with crazy stuff, though, so Teagan isn't worried. Her life isn't in danger. In fact, it's perfect. She's on track for a college scholarship. She has a great job. She's focused on school, work, and her future. No boys, no heartaches, no problems.
Until Finn Mac Cumhaill arrives. Finn's a bit on the unearthly beautiful side himself. He has a killer accent and a knee-weakening smile. And either he's crazy or he's been haunting Abby's dreams, because he's talking about goblins, too . . . and about being The Mac Cumhaill, born to fight all goblin-kind. Finn knows a thing or two about fighting. Which is a very good thing, because this time, Abby's right. The goblins are coming.

The Last Princess by Galaxy Craze:

Happily ever after is a thing of the past.

A series of natural disasters has decimated the earth. Cut off from the rest of the world, England is a dark place. The sun rarely shines, food is scarce, and groups of criminals roam the woods, searching for prey. The people are growing restless.

When a ruthless revolutionary sets out to overthrow the crown, he makes the royal family his first target. Blood is shed in Buckingham Palace, and only sixteen-year-old Princess Eliza manages to escape.

Determined to kill the man who destroyed her family, Eliza joins the enemy forces in disguise. She has nothing to live for but revenge, until she meets someone who helps her remember how to hope--and love--once more. Now she must risk everything to ensure that she does not become...

The Last Princess.

Oh my. That's a tough question...

The only one that is coming to my mind is that book called Hopeless by Colleen Hoover.... I mean, when I began it, it seemed like it had potential. But too many crazy turns and it left me with a creepy feeling. I would not recommend it for just being a terrible story. Like bad. Even after everything was (somewhat) resolved I was still left thinking "Ew!" So... yeah... But would I say it was the worst? IDK. I'll probably think of a really good one in a little while. Haha!

But I've found that I don't like the new older YA genre... the in-between of YA and Adult fiction (where they are in college and in 'adult situations' but are still incredibly immature)...and this was nearer to that than true YA.

Also... That Boy by Jillian Dodd... didn't even finish this one. It was just terrible-writing, story, characters. Everything.

Also, I hate to say that cause she's our Avett fan and her other book 'Slammed' was great.

Wow! Not what I was expecting you to say. And yeah, disappointing because I did like “Slammed”.  I don’t know how I feel about the New Adult books (I think that’s what they call them), you are right they seem extremely immature, worse so then some Ya novels. I say some because not all are bad.

My least favorite is “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” by CS Lewis because and this may seem silly, but I read the first four books of the Chronicles of Narnia just fine no problem, this book every time I picked it up no matter day or night, I fell asleep. It was like I would read one sentence and then I was just out.  For that alone I am naming it my least favorite book!
